Female Cardinal and Roses

With the right side of the painting completed, I'm calling this one done.

A great painting, including the tiny baby thorns!

You had mentioned no masking and painting over several layers on the light leaves. If it was egg tempera, it would take many more layers to be able to overtake a dark background with light, so that is one of the advantages unique to oil (at least I think it's
oil?)

Thank you so much Mona!
It's actually acrylic on masonite and I always use gesso instead of titanium white,it has more opacity. I picked that tip up a long time ago and never looked back.

Hey John,

Well, it is stunning. As I have said before, and will say again and again, I have no doubt ... your mastery of light and shadow is something. And, in the end, I think that is what much of art is all about, in addition of course to composition (which you have here in spades as well).

You ARE something else! Keep it up.
